Sometimes
Sometimes we need to be alone
Far from the stress and strain
We need to be with our own thoughts
To work our way through pain
We need to have some quiet time
To relax and think things through
To work out a solution
So we know what we must do
Others try to help us
But we don't like to moan
It's just sometimes better
To deal with things alone.

I Drive Your Truck
~Lee Brice
Merry Katherine drove a little red Ford Ranger truck that she just loved; sometimes, she and I would jump in it and go to the beach together. We had such fond memories of her in that little red truck. After she was killed (in someone else's four-wheel drive Tahoe,) we kept her truck for several years just to feel like life was a little more normal because her little red truck was in the driveway.
It was four-wheel drive, so she would love to take her friends off-road, ideally onto a muddy field, and go in circles to spin them around and around as fast as she could. (Once she came home with the mud all over it (too tired to get it washed {to hide the evidence of her shenanigans} before coming home I guess), with the mud even all over and down into its engine.... Tommy could tell she had to replace a tire because the lug nuts on one tire were barely hanging on...) She was quite the adventurer, captain of the Climbing Team in high school, ond on the Rugby team in college if that gives you any idea...

So, like this song, if anyone wanted to "feel" her close after her sudden death, it would be the easiest to climb into her truck and "burn up every back road in this town" ... "leaving that radio playing the same old country station where she'd left it."
As you might imagine, this song was quite the tear jerker for me when I heard it for the first time last week....
I Drive Your Truck

89 cents in the ash tray
Half empty bottle of Gatorade rolling on the floorboards
That dirty Braves cap on the dash
Dog tags hanging from the rear-view,
Old skoal can and cowboy boots and an old army shirt folded in the back
This thing burns gas like crazy, but that's alright
People got their ways of coping oh and I got mine
I drive your truck, I roll every window down
And I burn up every back road in this town
I find a field I tear it up till all the pane's a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck
I leave that radio playing same old country station where you left it
Yeah man I crank it up
And you'd probably punch my arm right now if you saw this tear rolling down on my face
Hey man I'm trying to be tough...
Momma asked me this morning if I've been by your grave
But that flag and stone ain't where I feel you anyway...
I drive your truck, I roll every window down
And I burn up every back road in this town
I find a field I tear it up till all the pane's a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck
I've cussed, I've prayed, I've said good bye
I've shook my fist and asked God why
These days when I'm missing you this much...
I drive your truck, I roll every window down
And I burn up every back road in this town
I find a field I tear it up till all the pane's a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck...
I drive your truck
I drive your truck
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
I drive your truck
When we lose a loed one
Our world just falls apart
We think that we can't carry on
With this broken heart
Everything is different now
You're upset and you're annoyed ~
Your world it seems is shattered
There's such an awful void
There's got to be a reason
And we have to understand
God made us and at any time
He'll reach down for our hand
There might not be a warning
We won't know where or when
The only thing we're certain of
Is we'll meet them close again.
