Wednesday's Woe Weeping and Gnashing ~Tommy Prince

Wednesday's Woe

Weeping and Gnashing

~Tommy Prince

Scripture's description of Hell...

"They will throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth."

~Matthew 13:42

We survived Thanksgiving by being extremely low-key. Literally shutting all the doors, closing the curtains, and turning off all the phones. But, for a Child-Loss Griever, what happens when you have peace and quiet? Keep everybody away... and the grief surfaces. I didn't know how much until my nightmare yesterday morning…

Hope for our daughter…

Emotionally, we were forever expending energy, trying to help her. Angie and I spent all our emotional, and much of our physical energy, trying to save her from herself...

“Last forever!' Who hasn't prayed that prayer? You were lucky to get it in the first place. The present is a freely given canvas. That it is constantly being ripped apart and washed downstream goes without saying.”

The Nightmare that Never Goes Away…

I awakened yesterday morning from a nightmare. When I awakened from my nightmare, I didn't experience the typical response of, "Thank goodness that was a dream and not real life!" Usually my nightmares would consist of the typical,

"I'm on a trip somewhere but I can never seem to find my destination; I am lost."

Or,

"I've got an exam coming up in a college class, but I haven't even studied for it."

…so that, when I wake up, I can breathe a sigh of relief:

"O, that was just a dream!"

But no. This time, I awakened, as I have over these past 6 years after her death, from a nightmare about her, to an internal scream of,

"O Hell No!!!"

And emotionally, I am a mess.

In my nightmare, she had been in some form of treatment, and was home on a pass, but a woman was here with her saying, "She's got to go back---there's a technicality not attended to, so she has to go back 'to fill out a form.'" I was furious.

What A Cruel Joke:
"She's here, but you can't have her."

I wake up, as I said, to my internal screams of

 "O Hell No!
"Having to live without her is a living nightmare!"

It seems I've always got a simmering growl underneath the surface. I feel a constant tension in my jaw. Weeping and gnashing are going on all the time inside me at an unconscious level.

Yes, I will go through the motions of life during my day, but…

My clumsiness tells on me…

High blood pressure tells on me…

Tension in my jaw tells on me…

Nightmares tell on me...

It's like at some deep level there is always weeping and gnashing going on in my heart and soul.

Perhaps this is really "the new normal" for Child-Loss Grievers, better defined as
"The New Hell-on-Earth Normal"!

Everything in me, for some unexplainable reason, is trying to keep her alive and keep her home, but it's not working.

My Life's Call: Keep my child alive.
Mission: Failed.

Monday's Mourning Ministry - Love's Antinomy: Learning to Live with Contradiction in Grief / He Will Rejoice Over You ~Trevor Morgan

Monday's Mourning Ministry

Love's Antinomy:

Learning to Live with Contradiction in Grief

~

He Will Rejoice Over You

~Trevor Morgan

Tommy taught me a new word as I awakened us in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday so that I could write down the poem going through my head. Since he was awake, I asked him,

"What is the word for when two contradictory things are going on at once, but both are true/both are real?"

About the time I was thinking of the word "paradox," the strangest word came out of Tommy's mouth (and yes, this was very early on a Saturday morning!).

He answered, "Antinomy"!

I said I have never heard of that word! He laughed and said,

"Well, you didn't grow up going to Bible Studies led by Ken Boa!"
(Ken Boa is an amazing expositor of Scripture {look on Amazon for many of Boa's books.} In Ken's early years, he came to Knoxville and worked in close association with Tommy's uncle, Matt Prince who started "New Life," which became a world-wide organization reaching out into homes to teach people about Christ in a way that Uncle Matt coined as "friendship evangelism.")

So when I went to look this strange word up, none of the ten dictionaries we have in our house had it listed, so Tommy pulls out a paperback dictionary he used in college, and there it was. Have any of you ever heard of this word before? Here is its definition:

Antinomy: a contradiction between two seemingly true statements;

Web definition: the mutual incompatibility, real or apparent, of two laws

We are faced with a seemingly "mutual incompatibility," facing our child's death which is heavy-laden with extreme and complicated grief for the child-loss parent, and yet rejoice in her being in the presence of her Lord. How can this be? How can one grieve and rejoice too? It is a seemingly impossible feat.
We are having to face the dire fact of her death which is like walking through Hell, while we are also attempting to peer into Heaven to "see" our child as she really is now; otherwise we are left staring in the face of her violent death every day (back to Hell).
God in His Word tells us to grieve, but not as one who has no hope. So our grief helps us face her death and mourn our great loss of her while our faith helps us look up and "see" with the eyes of faith the glorious surroundings in which our precious baby is living now!
My faith can rest in the vision of seeing our Lord saving our precious child, being with her every day, taking great delight over her, singing over her, quieting her with His love, and rejoicing over her! With that vision, I can indeed "grieve, but not as one with no hope." (See scriptures below my poem.)

Love's Antinomy:

Learning to Live with Contradiction in Grief

If He draws near and calls your name,

Who am I my child, to complain?

And yet my Lord loves me the same,

And bids me cry out 'gainst Death's bane

that struck you down amidst your youth,

forbidst you have a fighting chance!

He bids me hate Vile One uncouth,

E'en as I rejoice you're at th' Dance,

for God would never let you go

out of His hands, He loves you so!

Love calls me into paradox:

Welcome Life! ~ Hate Death's Evil Pox!

Though Death's destruction we do mourn,

We adore One who bore its thorn

That we may live and love again

God and loved ones ~ His Glorious Plan!

"The LORD your God is with you,

He is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you,

He will quiet you with his love,

He will rejoice over you with singing."

~Zephaniah 3:17 NIV

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant

about those who fall asleep,

or to grieve like the rest of men,

who have no hope.

We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

~I Thessalonians 4:13- 18

The Lord your God is in the midst of you,

a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]!

He will rejoice over you with joy;

He will rest [in silent satisfaction]

and in His love He will be silent

and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them];

He will exult over you with singing.

~Zephaniah 3:17 (Amplified Version)

"But for you who revere my name,

the sun of righteousness will rise with healing

in its wings. And you will go out and leap

like calves released from the stall."

~Malachi 4:2 NIV

Let them praise His name with dancing

and make music to Him with tambourine and harp.

For the LORD takes delight in His people...

~Psalm 149:3-4a NIV

Then God will rejoice over you

as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.

~Isaiah 62:5 NLT

"I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people;

And there will no longer be heard in her

The voice of weeping and the sound of crying."

~Isaiah 65:19 NASB

The following song is a great song that declares this Biblical truth that our Lord rejoices over us and even sings over us! (I had never heard this song before either, but I just found it on YouTube, and I love it!) The video is precious too as it shows Jesus loving on children much like mine and your children!

He Will Rejoice

~Trevor Morgan

The Lord your God is with you.

He is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you.

He will quiet you with His love.

chorus:

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

The Lord your God is with you.

He is mighty to save.

He will take great delight in you.

He will quiet you with His love.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

And through the night (in your darkest hour),

When you are tired (and you've lost all hope),

He will hold you tight.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

He will rejoice over you with singing.

He will rejoice over you with His song.

He will rejoice.

He will rejoice.

He will rejoice.

He will rejoice.

He will rejoice!

He puts a ring on our finger,

kills the fatted calf, throws a party,

shouts a shout that shakes the ends of creation,

and leads in the festal dance.

Monday's Mourning Ministry-Shine Your Mourning Light into Our Broken Temples, For It's Hard to See Heaven While Living in Hell/Never Alone~Barlow Girl

Monday's Mourning Ministry

Shine Your Mourning Light into Our Broken Temples,
For It's Hard to See Heaven While Living in Hell
/
Never Alone ~Barlow Girl

This week, we will take a look at the spiritual train-wreck most of us have experienced upon the death of our child, when everything we once firmly stood on as our very firm foundation in the Lord is brought into question at the very time our foundation needs to be the most secure and steady. The psychological community characterizes this phenomenon as "The Challenge to All of Our Assumptive Beliefs" when we have been thrown into major trauma.

So today's poem addresses some of that scrambled spiritual foundation that many of us experience. And today's song addresses that same phenomenon that even Jesus experienced in His death on the cross when He cried out, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (~Matthew 26:46, Mark 15:34, as Jesus quote the scripture from Psalm 22:1)

Silence the uproar of anguish that rages
Since Death's shroud enfolded our precious child...
Wipe away the tears from all of our faces
As our keening cries leave our spirits riled...

Temples...You built in our hearts, now broken?
Faith...You once carved, is now split asunder?
Foundations...formed, now thoroughly shaken?
Our spirits...emptied like vile Thief's plunder?
Life finds us heaped in a pile of rubble
Since Death's sheet fell with torment and trouble.

Our spirits mourn, our heart ever whimpers
Please shine Your Light into our broken temples.
If ever we need You, we need You now,
Please Lord attend us while weeping we bow.
Since into our beautiful lives, Hell fell,
It's hard to see Heaven while living in Hell.

We waste away in onslaught to our souls
As terror and dread and sorrow betray.
Though successfully climbing from Grief's holes,
We find only snares outside Grief's pits lay...
We're blown down again by Death's ruthless breath,
Drowned in Grief's floodgates, upon our child's death.

Wiped out by death, barely whisp'ring a prayer,
As a woman-with-child about to give birth
Writhes and cries out when her body won't bear ~
No greater torment is heard through the earth...
When we can't bring salvation to our child ~
Once hopeful in trust, we now feel beguiled...

Our spirits mourn, our heart ever whimpers
Shine Your Light into our broken temples.
If ever we need You, we need You now,
Please Lord attend us while weeping we bow.
Since into our beautiful lives, Hell fell,
It's hard to see Heaven while living in Hell.

Surely our God will reach out and save us ~
Lord, our souls yearn for You midst Grief's Dark Night.
You're our Safe Tower into which we can run;
Shelter our souls with Your Mourning Light.
We wait for You ~ Your name and renown, our delight.

We beg You dear God for Your Mourning Light
To soothe and comfort; please show paths through our plight.

And to my complaints, our Lord lovingly says,

"Though dead, Your child lives! Her body will rise!
They who dwell in dust, wake up, shout for joy ~
For God in His Heaven vile Death defies,
I save My children, each girl and each boy!
As Love rains like dew, earth gives birth to her dead,
Disclosing from earth, your children's blood shed,
Concealed no longer, My children rise from th' dead!"

Carry us now through Grief's sordid pain,
While trusting through tears, our child we'll regain.
We'll meet them Someday on the other Shore
Where we'll sing Your praises forevermore!

Surely our God reaches out to save us ~
Lord, our souls yearn for You midst Grief's Dark Night!
You're our Safe Tower into which we will run,
Shelter our souls with Your Mourning Light...
We wait for You ~ Your name and renown, our Delight.

Our spirits mourn, our heart ever whimpers
Shine Your Mourning Light into our broken temples.
If ever we need You, we need You now!
Please Lord attend us while weeping we bow.
Since into our beautiful lives, Hell fell,
It's hard to see Heaven while living in Hell.

Carry us now through Grief's sordid pain,
While trusting through tears, our child we'll regain...
We'll meet them Someday on the other Shore
Where together we'll sing Your praise evermore!

Thank You dear God for Your Mourning Light...
You soothe, You comfort, You show Your paths through our plight...

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

~Proverbs 18:10

My poem was inspired by the very poetic writing found in Isaiah, chapters 25 and 26

On this mountain He will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove the disgrace of His people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.

~Isaiah 25:7-8

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer, by night, and am not silent.

~Psalm 22:1-2 (a psalm of King David)

Never Alone ~Barlow Girl

"Never Alone"

~Barlow Girl

I waited for you today
But you didn't show
No no no
I needed You today
So where did You go?
You told me to call
Said You'd be there
And though I haven't seen You
Are You still there?

[Chorus:]

I cried out with no reply
And I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I"m never alone

And though I cannot see You
And I can't explain why
Such a deep, deep reassurance
You've placed in my life

We cannot separate
'Cause You're part of me
And though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen

[Chorus]
I cried out with no reply
And I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I"m never alone

We cannot separate
You're part of me
And though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen

[Chorus]
I cried out with no reply
And I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I"m never alone

The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.

~Lamentations 3:22

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
