Tuesday's Trust ~ Tender Blues

Tuesday's Trust

Tender Blues

Out of the depths of the blue, blue grief
Rises my lovely baby girl,
Seeing her smile brings sweet relief
Lifting my burden-filled world.

How to compute the happiness There
And commute it down to this earth?
How to not fixate on her death
Rather, to celebrate her birth?

Out of the depths of the blue, blue grief
Where her loss has become my cross,
How do I stand against the devilish thief
With his crushing albatross?

How do I live amidst death's curse
Though my Lord conquered hers with His,
Yet the view from this earth still glowers worse
When my grief and my sorrow hits.

I cry out my grief in my Savior's arms
He receives me with His tenderness
My passionate feelings rouse no alarms
That His abounding Love would need to redress.

My Savior Himself knows all grief feels grim
So He holds me close to His heart
After all, the Love for my child was giv'n by Him
So tenderly right from the start.

His love toward me, so kind, so sweet
Amidst such deep pain in this mommy's heart
Serves as a catalyst as I weep
To soothe the wounds as I fall apart.

Out of the depths of my blue, blue grief,
My Savior faithfully comes to bring me relief.
Our tears borne from love are no threat to our LORD
He blesses them with comfort, His Love's reward.

He healeth the broken in heart,
and bindeth up their wounds.

Psalm 147:3

Tuesday's Trust - My Angel Sang Me to Sleep Last Night ~Angie Bennett Prince

"When you wake up with a song stuck in your head, it means an angel sang you to sleep."

~Denise Baer

Tuesday's Trust

My Angel Sang Me to Sleep Last Night

~Angie Bennett Prince

After a painful night's sleep last night, with a short evening nap preceding that, I realized I had had songs stuck in my head that all brought thoughts of Merry Katherine, and therefore tears along with them in both of these consecutive times of sleep. Then this morning, I discovered this beautiful picture you see above on the Grieving Mothers' Facebook site! So immediately, I was inspired to write the following poem. I wanted to share it with you, my fellow grievers who understand...

My Angel Sang Me to Sleep Last Night

My angel came into my dreams last night
I had whispered her name aloud just before sleep;
She must have whisked by with her wings so light,
Comforting my heart with each loving sweep...

My angel sang me to sleep last night...
Song after song came into my head,
Tears rolling down blurred my sight
As my angel visited me upon my bed.

My angel sang me to sleep last night...
In my dreams, songs were stuck in my head
From both nap time to night time...
My angel revisited, her sweet love so swift to spread.

My angel sang me to sleep last night...
She must have come by to comfort my heart:
It has been nine years today since my daddy died;
It hurts so much when loved ones must part…

My angel sang me to sleep last night...
Tears were surfacing each time when
Each song that came, brought her to mind
As my angel visited again and again.

My angel sang me to sleep last night...
She sensed my loneliness and my hurt,
Met me in my tears with her angel light,
Comforting Mommy with her loving hug…

My angel sang me to sleep last night;
Now I can rest peacefully, hugged so tight...

Friday's Faith - We Walked Along the Road Together

Friday's Faith

We Walked Along the Road Together

We walked along the road together,
My daughter, tiny then, and I
My heart heavy, hers light as a feather
On that tender day, bright sun in the sky.

Into my pain, she spoke her truth,
Child-like, true to her nature:
The pain was shattered down to its root
By its piercing clarity, simply, to her mother wagered.

Were you child, or angel fair
With your clear green eyes and curls of hair?
Did God take you to His skies of blue
Those few years later, back to your Home so true?
Do you still speak down into my pain
With your breath of fresh air like a soothing rain?

We walk along the road together:
My daughter with her spritely grin, and I
My heart heavy, hers light as a feather
On these tender days, bright sun in the sky.

Tuesday's Trust - If I Could Visit Heaven ~with my added verses

Tuesday's Trust

If I Could Visit Heaven

If I could visit Heaven, Lord, I'd come up there and see
Why it was so urgent to take my child away from me.
I'd ask a million questions. There would be no lies.
I'd take in all the beauty of the never ending skies.
But most of all I'd sit and talk to my baby one more time.
I'd ask him what he does all day, he'd tell me that he's fine.
He'd tell me that he's happy and no longer has any pain.
He'd tell me that he loves me and we'll be together again.
If I could visit Heaven, Lord, It would help me deal.
It would help each day go by, It would help me heal.
But I can't visit Heaven, Lord. I'll have to wait and see.
I know you know I miss my child. I have to let it be.
So will You tell him that I miss him? And will You hug him tight?
And tell him that I see him, in the stars at night?
And will You tell him that I love him more than eyes can see...
Oh, if I could only visit Heaven, Lord,
How blessed my life would be.

 ~ with my added verses...

If I Could Visit Heaven, Lord...

If I could visit Heaven Lord, I know that I would see…
My baby is so happy, happier than, here, she could ever be.
I'd wrap my arms around her and hold her O so tight,
Similar to the way I did---in what turned out to be---our last night…

I'd catch her up on how her friends are doing, and all earth's goings on,
We'd sit and talk, and laugh and play, we'd sing Heavn's latest song,
She'd take me all 'round Heaven, and lovingly make me for It, long…
I'd rest my heart knowing all her latest Life-filled activities
As if she were just away at camp, filled with its festivities.

I wouldn't want to bring her home; that would be cruelty;
To return her to this fallen world would not be loving of me,
But Lord, it would help me to know what her life's like in the Divine;
You know a mother always longs to know her baby is quite fine…

But I'll stay here, and let You help me ever build my faith
For by it You will carry me up to Your Home some Day,
And I will trust that every day You'll love and hug my child,
Reminding her Mommy misses her, and longs to see that smile...

Thank You God for saving her, and keeping her safe with You,
Life with You must be wonderful though I can't see beyond these skies of blue.
I do know she ever basks in Your deep abiding love
And You sing and rejoice over her, and quiet her by Your love.

Quiet me too now my Father, wrap Your arms around me so tight.
Help me get through these days, and this seemingly never-ending Night.
Comfort this grieving mommy's heart while separated from my child,
And when I slip and think she's gone, let me again glimpse
her bright and lively smile…

~Angie

Tuesday's Trust - A Mother's Cross

Tuesday's Trust

A Mother's Cross

What can extricate me
From this terrible pain?
I must train my eyes to see
My loss is still her gain…

But O this is such a terrible loss!

(…Yet she sees her Master upon the cross...
He gave His all that her child might live;
She bowed her head and humbly said,)

"Lord, what can I give?"

"My child, you're bearing the world's worst pain
That your child may have Me, her eternal gain.
It's a Sacred Trust you bear for love;
She's resting now in her Home above.

"So remember each time you shed a tear,
I draw your baby ever near:
Your salty tears she helps me collect
For by each tear, your souls connect!"

Paroxysms of grief begin to flow
As my love flows up from here below.

"My painful tears are the least I can give,
You gave Your life that my baby might live!

"The birth pangs from here to bear her There
Are this mother's sacrifice,
As, Lord, our Sacrificial Love for her,
 Together, we might share."

"But now, like a woman in childbirth,
.......I cry out, I gasp and pant."

~~~
"We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
"What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
'For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.'
"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Tuesday's Trust - To Feel An "Angel" By Faith…
Tuesday's Trust
To Feel An "Angel" By Faith…
I felt an "angel" near today, and though I could not see,
I could feel the patting of my heart, O so tenderly…
I looked there deep within my soul
And heard my heart cry out hurt's toll...
Yet immediately it seemed, I inhaled a jasmine-like fragrance
Reminiscent of an early spring breeze's soothing scents,
When then it seemed the very rays of the sun's warming glow
Reached out to embrace and hold me, rocking me gently to and fro…
And then in the distance I could hear the lightest beat of the softest drum
Beating out an old familiar "rum pa pum pum"…
But when I felt the gentlest sprinkling of Love's falling dew
Blanketing my heart-and-soul-and-spirit's deep duress,
That's when a cry sprang from out my sorrowed soul, as then I knew…
It was my own sweet "Angel" weeping with me, cradling her mommy's broken heart unto her gentle breast…
I felt an "angel" near today, and though I could not see,
I could feel her patting of my heart, O so tenderly,
Yet this was my precious "Angel" sent here just for me,
And the love she sends through my heart is simply Heavenly…
Friday's Faith - The "Quickening": From Birth to Re-Birth
Friday's Faith
The "Quickening":
From Birth to Re-Birth
"Full with child," she's told ~ so hard to believe
There's a speck of life inside this mother-to-be!
The words are there; the tests reveal
Truths for her she can't yet feel.
The ultrasound soon sends a sound
Of a beating heart such truth to resound.
But then one day comes the "quickening":
She feels for herself life hearkening...
Each movement inside proves there's life,
Creating a bond till faith becomes sight!
And so with you, my life-filled child,
I'm told you are not dead, but fully alive!
I cannot see; I groan from within,
But over time, comes the "quickening":
When Life I'm told that's surely there
Is felt from within before it's to appear.
You hearken to my beating heart,
"I'm Here Mommy; we're just apart!"
The tears come---it's hard to believe,
But such joyous news, I gladly receive.
I speak to you, I feel you near;
Life's quickening begins before you appear!
As Wonderful as your life-on-earth here,
How much more joyous Then~
When in Heaven you'll fully appear!
So my child I'll await,
Though you're still sight unseen...
For Heaven's Gate
To open and reveal: Life's completed quickening...
When tears of Joy then shall reign
And you're in your Mommy's arms again!
I'll patiently wait through Death's Dark Night
Until that Great Day when my Faith becomes Sight!
Tuesday's Trust - A Cry to Heaven and God's Response
Tuesday's Trust
A Cry to Heaven, and God's Response
For us Child-Loss Grievers,
Post-Traumatic Stress
Adds to our duress ~
Hearts and Minds
And Souls so stressed,
It's hard for us to find
Our body's needed rest ~
How do we decompress?
Lord, our bodies crave Your peace
Amidst the Soul's Dark Night;
Please give us sweet release ~
You recognize our plight:
To battle Satan, Sin and Death
Who together seemed to win…
To claim our own child's breath;
We're thrown in Vile One's den.
We need Your Life-giving touch
To deliver us again.
We love our child too much
To never see her again.
Then God lovingly replies,
My child, for this temporary while,
Satan does hold the power of death ~
But, remember, I do hold your child,
And I've restored her breath.
Learn to rest in me
For I do see your plight ~
My Son destroyed Death's Night
My Own Son suffered Death
That your child might have her breath.
Take time to be with Me
To restore your spirit with eyes to see:
Your child resides with Me,
From Satan, Sin, and Death set free;
Her spirit thrives in Heaven, alive eternally,
Excitedly awaiting your arrival to live with her and Me,
While all the saints in Heaven help us prepare a room for thee.
You will see Satan, Sin, And Death destroyed and live in peace eternally.
Take My hand, I'll give you eyes to see;
Meanwhile, I am here to comfort you each day;
When your faith grows weak, just look to Me and pray.
Merry Katherine is alive; she is Here with Me!
When sorrow does arise, look up and you will "see."
Your baby does thrive and does often visit thee;
We're just beyond the Veil, not so very far ~
We watch your every move and come to soothe your broken heart.
Your loving heart does suffer now
Till Joy blossoms from all your tears rained down…
Scripture:
"What is man that You are mindful of him,
the Son of Man that You care for Him?
You made Him a little lower than the angels;
You crowned Him with glory and honor
and put everything under His feet."
In putting everything under Him,
God left nothing that is not subject to Him.
Yet at present we do not see everything subject to Him.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels,
now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death,
so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
In bringing many sons to glory
it was fitting that God,
for whom and through whom everything exists,
should make the Author of their Salvation
perfect through suffering.
Both the One who makes men holy
and those who are made holy
are of the same family.
So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.
He says,
"I will declare Your Name to My brothers;
in the presence of the congregation
I will sing Your praises."
And again,
"I will put My trust in Him."
And again He says,
"Here am I, and the children God has given Me."
Since the children have flesh and blood,
He too shared in their humanity
so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death---
that is, the devil---
and free those who all their lives
were held in slavery by their fear of death.
For surely it is not angels He helps,
but Abraham's descendants.
For this reason He had to be made like His
brothers in every way, in order that He
might become a merciful and faithful
High Priest in service to God,
and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people.
Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted,
He is able to help those who are being tempted.
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the
Heavenly calling,
fix your thoughts on Jesus,
the Apostle and High Priest whom we confess.
...Therefore, since we have a Great High Priest
who has gone through the Heavens,
Jesus the Son of God,
let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
For we do not have a High Priest who is unable
to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have One who was tempted in
every way, just as we are
---yet was without sin.
Let us then approach the Throne of Grace
with confidence, so that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help us in our time of need.
~Hebrews 2:7b-3:1, 4:14-16
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great crowd of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow  weary and lose heart.
~Hebrews 11:39 - 12:3
Christmas Eve - When Merry Left Christmas
Christmas Eve
When Merry Left Christmas
How can I be "happy" at Christmas when everywhere
I look, I see the "Merry" with Christmas, yet her bed is bare?
We still get cards that put the "Merry" with Christmas, but
When her stocking remains untouched, I feel punched in my gut.
I look and I look with jingle bells ringing roun' ~
Yet you, my Merry… you're nowhere to be found!
For my Merry left Christmas 5 years ago--
Have people not heard; do they really not know?!
They hustle and bustle, and to the mall they do clammer;
When they see my tears, startled, they ask "What is the matter?!"
When my Merry left Christmas, the sparkle fell off;
Santa crashed his sleigh; the reindeers fell off;
The mistle- was kicked right off the -toe;
The candles lost their light, their bright, cheery glow;
The parents can't nestle all snug in their bed;
The tree is not up; the holly's lost its red.
The night before Christmas never stopped being dark;
Santa and his wife are depressed, so his sleigh he did park.
There are no reminders we have nothing to dread...
For our child is not here; she's not snuggled in her bed.
I call and I call her; I call her by name;
But each time I call her the answer's the same:
As dry leaves that on the silent ground do lie,
The quiet astounds me until I must cry.
I speak not a word; I pour myself into my work,
But still there's no Merry, so I cry with a jerk.
My Merry's not here, or at least she's not in sight;
So it's not a Merry Christmas, and it's not a good night!
But then I remember, on Christmas Day, her Savior came down,
He spread all His love, and even gave her a crown;
And though He was killed on that old rugged cross,
He saved my poor Merry from being forever lost!
For though He was spitefully killed with hate,
Up from the grave He arose, never too late
To save my dear child from death's worst fate.
So He reminds me she IS now by His side,
That she's really alive though indeed she had died!
So as much as I despaired that my Merry was gone,
He put Merry back in Christmas, for she's in the Christ Child's Home!
So now I exclaim, although my Merry's not in sight,
After my God graciously revealed to me His Light,
"Keep the Christ Child in Christmas; He came to fight our child's fight!
He conquered the Enemy; He saved our child's Life!
She is with Him forever ~ Christ has ended Death's Blight…
"So Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Night!!!"
Monday's Mourning Ministry - Jesus Had a Little Lamb - Come Thou Fount ~Chad Cates
This picture is on Merry Katherine's head stone at her grave site.
"Jesus and the Lamb," 1982 ~Katherine Brown
Monday's Mourning Ministry
Jesus Had a Little Lamb
Come Thou Fount ~Chad Cates
On Merry Katherine's first year anniversary of her death, I wrote a poem trying to articulate some of what I saw happening in Merry Katherine's life at the time of her death. I put this poem in our local newspaper for her memoriam:
Jesus Had a Little Lamb
Jesus had a little lamb;
Her name was Merry Prince,
And many places Merry would go
Would make her Savior wince.
She followed Him to "the streets" one day
Which was against the rule;
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb so "cool."
But Jesus saw her heart that day
And said, "My child, you'll be My tool
To reach My lambs who've gone astray
Into the grasp of the Enemy, cruel."
He took her up to Heaven
To be with Him at last,
But when He ran to embrace her,
She cried, "But Lord, I wandered from Your path!"
He wiped her tears and held her close,
"My child, don't you understand --
I took care of your sins so long ago
In My most sacred plan.
"I loved you so and sent My Son
To die upon that cross
So that you and all My other lambs
Would never more be lost.
"Yes, My child, you wandered from Me,
But since you were Mine, I never did depart;
When you looked to Me to set you free,
I heard the cries of your heart.
"And now your story will be told
To many people young and old,
Of My amazing love and grace
Given for your soul.
"Together you and I work as a team
To fulfill your precious dream
Through other lambs who are still on earth
To lead your friends to their second birth
"So they can join us too some day
Freed from all their sins
And they will find that Life with Me
Brings Joy that never ends."
Jesus had a little lamb
Her fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Merry went
His love was sure to flow.
And now she lives right by His side,
From Him never more to roam --
Content in His presence to abide
Safe in Her Father's Home.
Now that with God's help, His little lamb has
"fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith,"
She may now be with Him in Heaven to gaze upon His face,
And ever live to praise Him for His amazing Grace.
Isaiah 40:11
*****
For Merry Katherine's funeral, her two brothers, then 24 and 21 years old, helped me to choose the songs and pictures we would use for her funeral. Her older brother Rollin chose the very precious and sacred song, "Come to Jesus" by Chris Rice, for her. Her brother Nathan chose the following song so beautiful and apt at describing her love for the Lord and yet her struggle of being "prone to wander" as she explored life extravagantly, even if at times recklessly: "Come Thou Fount" by Chad Cates.
I have been so frustrated up to now because I looked and looked on You Tube and could not find Chad Cates' very anointed version of this wonderful hymn. I expressed my lament to my sons over time as they are so knowledgeable about finding things on the internet.
Upon my visit with my son Rollin, my daughter-in-law Stephanie, and my newborn grandbaby "Ellie" last weekend, Rollin informed me that he had shared my chagrin over not finding the Chad-Cates rendition with Chad Cates, himself! (Rollin, Nathan and Merry Katherine have all known Chad Cates personally because he had led the music for some of their church summer youth camps (held at the beach in Panama City, Florida); the church called these annual church camps "Sonburn").
Chad Cates graciously told Rollin he would put the song on YouTube for me! And so, today I get to share it with you! Here is the very inspired and poignant rendition of "Come Thou Fount" by Chad Cates as it was played at Merry Katherine's funeral on August 6, 2006:
Come Thou Fount
~Chad Cates
Come Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise His name; I'm fixed upon it
Name of God's redeeming love.
Hitherto Thy love has blessed me;
Thou hast brought me to this place.
And I know Thy hand will bring me
Safely Home by thy good grace.
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God,
He to rescue me from danger
Bought me with His precious blood.
O to Grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee.
Prone to wander Lord I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here's my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above!
Here's my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above!
~written by John Wyeth and Robert Robinson,
The original hymn:
COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING
As written by John Wyeth and Robert Robinson
Come thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of Thy redeeming love.
Here I raise mine Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’m come.
And I hope by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand’ring from the fold of God.
He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy grace, Lord, like a fetter, bind my wand’ring heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.
